The Special Relationship is a phrase often used to describe the exceptionally close political, diplomatic, cultural and historical relations between the United States and the United Kingdom. This is the catching up and discussion blog of two friends, one black, one white, living on either side of the Atlantic.
Ali Al Magrahi, Gadaffi, Justice, Compassion and Humanity
I had to reply to the Libyan thing. For a start it was the Scots, which I dont think the US understands- their own laws, judiciary, parliament etc then theres the fact that all the UK famillies believe he is not guilty, but just a scapegoat. Yes the celebrations were ill advised by the libyans, but Prince Andrew has cancelled his trade trip therewhich may not sound like much but Gadaffis sons love all that hanging out with a prince thing, and they have oil too.I totally support pragmatic decisions to protect trade and oil, even Bushes dodgy war (though I wish they had thought beyond the deployment of troops.DOnt forget the trouble we had with letting the US use our bases to bomb Libya in the 80,s what sort of behaviour was that? This bloke was innocent, is dying and cost £900 a week to keep in prison when hes well. Whats the point in keeping him in prison. This would be revenge not justice. I am for JUSTICE. FInd the real bombers. But let them home too if they are dying. What was Clinton doing in Korea? What about the Journalist in Iran. WHat about the girl drug mule in Vietnam who came home a couple of weeks ago. The Americans only do their own justice which looking up and down death row doesnt have much to do with compassion or humanity.
